Prakritir Pratisodh – Nature’s Revenge!

We’re pleased to be debuting the full-length production in Minnesota after its world premiere in Wisconsin earlier this year!

Nature’s Revenge portrays through a series of breathtaking Kathak vignettes what happens when human actions drive the five basic elements (“Panchabhuta,” or the five elements that are considered the fundamental building blocks of the universe and the human body in Indian philosophy and Ayurveda: earth, water, fire, air, and space) out of sync, and how we can work together to bring them back into harmony.

Featuring new and expanded choreography by KDT Artistic Director Rita Mustaphi and music composed by Pandit Birju Maharaj, Rajeev Chakraborty and Jayanta Banerjee, the show will be in keeping with KDT’s mission to propel the Kathak tradition into genre-bending spaces.

Outreach

Katha Dance Theatre seeks to engage the local community with cross-cultural workshops and performances.

Historical Repertory

All KDT repertory works are choreographed or co-choreographed by Rita Mustaphi, who founded the Company in 1987. One of Rita’s aims in founding KDT was to embrace the duality of traditional and contemporary. Accordingly, her choreographic works preserve the Kathak tradition, ensuring its enduring legacy, while also building on that legacy by incorporating cross-cultural influences and diverse collaborations.
