This session will introduce new beginners to the fundamentals of classical Kathak dance with a focus on its technique, terminology, and execution of dance syllables along with elements of storytelling. It will also help continuing students and experienced newcomers build upon their established technique and skill level as they advance their ability in the classroom. If you have previous Kathak experience but are new to KDT, please email us to determine your class placement before you enroll.
All classes this session will be open to both in-person (at our St. Louis Park studio) or virtual learners, but any class with fewer than 50% in-person registrants will move online. Any changes to class set-up will be indicated via email, so please check regularly for updates.
A few important things to note:
- Masks must be worn by anyone in the studio at all times, regardless of one’s vaccination status
- Proof of vaccination is required for all eligible in-person students*
- All in-person students are required to abide by our safety measures and code of conduct, as well as sign this waiver.*
*All in-person students who have previously signed our waiver and provided proof of vaccination do not have to do so again.
Kathak is so much more than a dance style. It promotes artistic expression and creativity; increases flexibility, agility, and grace; establishes strong mind-body connections and coordination; and provides important cultural context and knowledge. It is also adaptable to any skill level; all dancers over the age of 6 are welcome! Find our complete class schedule below.
NOTE: Scholarships are available by request and are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need as well as skill and/or commitment. We ask that requests for financial assistance this Fall be emailed to the office before December 3. Financial assistance is awarded at the sole discretion of Katha Dance Theatre and is subject to available funding.
